(this thought stream from here needs editing, this is a beginning i need to break it down into coherent thought) - Kate Moss has become ubiquitous and frankly I’ve become bored in myself of just continuing the vanity stream of drawing fashion models. We are just celebrating commercial vanity projects that don’t have any positive outcomes. SO for this one I decided to do something different that I started doing on prints of my drawings of her where I go over her eyes with my art tag and then go over that too (identity vandalism?). This action by striking out or censoring her eyes deals with the vanity side of things. Saying it’s not actually that cool and there is something going on here that needs to be addressed, which is addressing/correcting the negative narcissism in society that starts from shameless vanity like super models posing for advertisers targeting young self conscious teens with useless products.
I scanned the finished drawing of her where she hasn’t had her eyes censored, then did some prints of the drawing and proceeded to go over her eyes on the prints in various ways, documenting all the way. I then scanned all of the prints I had censored and collaborated with Simon from Mr. Snappys to create a selection of printed fabric patches that can then be chosen, applied, and replaced over the artwork. This is making the artwork and action of censoring interactive and modular (something not done before)?
These patches were also applied to caps which are for sale which crosses back into fashion again…
