End of the first film - the Major 'talks' to the AI
Most people have seen the film Ghost In The Shell 1995, (review here), which if you don’t know, was a huge influence on western sci-fi (The Matrix Trilogy for a start). For anyone who may not have heard of Ghost In The Shell. I would say to them that Ghost In The Shell stands well above all anime films purely for its sophisticated plot lines and accurate predictions of the future (it’s now about 15 years old, but they sure had a grasp of what the internet could mean for the world before the founders of Google even graduated!). Also the philosophical arguments put forward by the films are actually pretty high-brow. So this all makes for thought-provoking, visually compelling viewing!
For those who have seen the film I wonder if you ever realized there was a second or third film.

The Innocence
The Ghost In The Shell was a TV series in Japan before it released any films. The first film was a huge success and won many awards. Then about 10 years later the second film was released: The Innocence. This film has some of the most visually stunning anime scenes ever produced (see left image), but for me the plot got a little too twisted in the already complex overarching story.
Then 2 years later (2006) came the third film Solid State Society is a return to the original series in terms of the story background and screen rendering (no longer as stunning as the second film, but more like a anime cartoon style). But the plot is as interesting as ever, (not as confusing as the second). In fact it’s kind of a strange experience watching a film that looks like its more fit for The Cartoon Network, yet is so rich in ideas and has such a strong plot with twists, it could be a 2035 Martin Scorsese type story. So, If you liked the first film, you may want to skip the second and watch the third, but to get the most of the third, you’d want to watch a couple of episodes from the original series.
